New book: Responsible Tourism Best Practices in the Nordic Countries
Recently, the book Responsible Tourism Best Practices in the Nordic Countries was published by Jamk university of applied sciences, Finland. The book project was initiated by the ICRT Finland network and was implemented in fruitful Nordic cooperation. Editors are Petra Blinnika and Minna Tunkkari-Eskelinen, both from Jamk university of applied sciences, Finland, Åsa Grahn, Stavanger university, Norway, and Guðrún Þóra Gunnarsdóttir, director of the Icelandic Tourism Research Centre.
The goal of this publication is to present responsible tourism cases conducted in Nordic countries to share experiences and create learning opportunities for tourism stakeholders throughout the entire tourism value chain: entrepreneurs, tourism officials, DMO’s as well as tourism academics and students.
The chapters explore cases related to different aspects of responsibility in tourism especially focusing on two main themes:
- Competence development and the role of the individual in responsible tourism.
- The importance of effective cooperation in responsible tourism.
In the introductory chapter, a brief overview of the organization and management of tourism in each of the five Nordic countries is given, and in the final chapter, the editors summarize the main results and look to the future. The book's foreword was written by Harold Goodwin, Professor Emeritus at Manchester Metropolitan University. Harold is a pioneer of responsible tourism and Director of the Responsible Tourism Partnership.
