Resilience in tourism - new report
In her report, “It’s in our DNA”. SMETs’ Resilience in Akureyri, Irene Carbone analyses resilience in small-medium enterprises operating in tourism (SMETs) in Akureyri. Irene’s research is directed at observing the correlation between the COVID-19 crisis and the preparedness towards new possible crises, namely related to climate change.
The study findings show how SMET’s response to the COVID-19 crisis entails different approaches and practices that were adopted during the pandemic period and that in many cases remain to the present day, supporting a better response to current and future crises. Particularly, cooperation between tourism entrepreneurs, diversification, quality management and the adoption of sustainable practices were found to be the most influential elements of resilience.
